not american appropriate

while we’re on the subject of ads, let’s just all take a real close look at one from the company that everyone loves to hate and hates to love: american apparel.

above you will notice a one-piece bathing suit that appears to be a) missing some material, or b) made for those who are cleavagely challenged. were it the latter, i don’t even think that us small gals would be into purchasing this style. even a cups would be left hanging out—not a very flattering look.

nor does it compliment those more well endowed, whom the ad seems to be targeting. i think what is trying to be said here is “get this bathing suit so you can look as sexy as me,” when all i want to do is give this poor girl a t-shirt, a towel—anything to cover her up and make her decent. how i read it? “i want attention and am willing to leave little to the imagination to get it.” but that’s just me. there may be people out there that think this is a perfectly lovely bathing suit. to that end, i will be avoiding you on the beach.

because really, who would go crashing through the surf in this getup? aside from the most obvious fear of spillage, i’m sure the material also turns a wonderful shade of translucent when wet. but hey, as long as you’re not in vegas…
