you know, it’s funny. so many female celebrities have been hit with the baby bug lately. and aside from toting their tots with them now as their hottest new accessories, i’ve noticed a change in them. something subtle, something soft, they give off a new energy that even emanates from the pages of glossies that they skip about in for interviews and fashion spreads. i can’t quite put my finger on it, but motherhood has certainly fared thee well for stars like michelle williams, katie holmes, and angelina jolie.
well, i can also add model gisele bundchen to that list now, as she’s almost unrecognizable in her shots for harper’s bazaar uk, so different now does she look. back to modeling swimsuits just six weeks after her and tom brady’s son benjamin was born last december (there’s a reason they’re called supermodels), she attributes her body’s quick return to breastfeeding. “i think breastfeeding really helped,” says gisele. “some people here think they don’t have to breastfeed, and i think, ‘are you going to give chemical food to your child when they are so little?’”
i’ve never been a big fan of hers, but the woman has a point. i know i’ve said this before, but really, why would you give your newborn chemically made formula if you are able to feed him/her naturally, the way that woman has done since the beginning of time? it’s great to see someone like gisele—so well-known and a fixture in the fashion industry (of all places to find a poster child)—stick up for breastfeeding at a time when many are looking down on the function. but what really had me floored was her next comment: “there should be a worldwide law, in my opinion, that mothers should breastfeed their babies for six months.”
so there you have it. breastfeeding advocation has a new face, and her name is gisele bundchen. so do it for your babe—and for your new mommy-made look.
